Sessions and What to Expect

I offer a calm, unhurried space where you can speak openly, feel genuinely heard, and explore what matters to you.

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step. Knowing what to expect can help it feel more manageable. Below is a guide to how the process usually unfolds.

Step 1: Getting Started

We begin with a free 20-minute introductory call. This is a chance for us to meet, for you to get a sense of me and how I work, and to share a little about what has brought you here.

If you decide to continue, we will agree on a regular day and time that feels manageable for you. Sessions are available online or face to face in my counselling room on King’s Parade in Cambridge.

There is no pressure to move forward. You are free to take this at your own pace, in a way that feels steady and right for you.

Step 2: Your First Sessions

The first sessions are an opportunity to begin gently.

You might want to talk about what has been weighing on you, what has led you to seek support, or what you hope might feel different. You may not yet have the words for it, and that is completely fine. We begin wherever you are.

This is also where you begin to get a feel for the space. A focused, thoughtful conversation where your experience matters. I listen carefully, ask questions where helpful, and begin to understand you more fully.

Trust is not assumed; it is built over time. There is space for that here.

Step 3: How the Work Develops

As therapy develops, we begin to explore the patterns, emotions and different parts of you that may show up in daily life — such as anxious parts, critical parts, perfectionist parts or protective responses.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps us understand why these parts exist and what roles they may have taken on over time.

A helpful way to think about IFS is like an orchestra. Each instrument has its own sound, role and purpose, but sometimes certain parts become overpowering while others are unheard. Therapy helps create more understanding, balance and harmony between these different parts of yourself.

Alongside this deeper exploration, I may also integrate CBT tools and strategies to help with emotional regulation, thought patterns and coping techniques in everyday life.

Some clients find short-term therapy helpful for working through a particular challenge or life event, while others prefer longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and emotional experiences in more depth over time.

Session Details

Sessions are available online via Zoom or face to face in my counselling room on King’s Parade in Cambridge.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and costs £70. When working with Internal Family Systems (IFS), sessions may occasionally extend slightly, and we can discuss this if it becomes relevant.

A small number of reduced-fee spaces are available, and you are welcome to enquire about these.

I operate a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.

For further details, you are welcome to visit the FAQ page or get in touch directly.

Session Location

My therapy room is located in the Cambridge Therapy Rooms in central Cambridge, opposite King’s College on King’s Parade.

Despite being in the heart of the city, the entrance is discreet, and once inside, the building offers a sense of calm away from the outside pace. The room itself is bright, welcoming, and designed to support you in settling into the process.

A small waiting area is available if you arrive early.

Please note the room is on the second floor and accessed via stairs, so it is not currently wheelchair accessible. If you have any access needs, you are very welcome to get in touch to discuss options.

Online Psychotherapeutic Counselling

I offer online sessions via Zoom, giving you the flexibility to access counselling from your own space, wherever you feel most comfortable.

This also means I can work with clients across the UK, making support more accessible without the need to travel.
